Project: PPT Ping Pong Table
Author: Ilaria Marzano
This project explores revitalising public squares through participation and inclusion with a multifunctional table.

PPT is conceived as more than a piece of urban furniture. It represents an opportunity for Milan to rediscover and reclaim its public spaces—echoing a time when neighbourhood life extended into
streets, courtyards, and shared outdoor spaces.
PPT is conceived as more than urban furniture: it is a tool for reclaiming public space in Milan, recalling a time when streets and courtyards were shared social environments. Acting as a catalyst for interaction, it brings people of different ages together around a simple, collective gesture—the table as a symbol of conviviality and urban regeneration.
The design is based on a single half-court module (152 × 137 cm), which works as a dining table on its own and becomes a full regulation table tennis table (152 × 274 cm) when paired with a second unit. This modular logic allows flexible spatial configurations in public settings.
Both tabletop and structure are entirely made of recycled fibre-reinforced polymer (rFRP), exploring the full structural potential of composite materials without external reinforcements. The tabletop is produced through open-mold casting with integrated reinforced ribs, while the leg supports are embedded via a secondary moulding phase. Aluminium legs are detachable and adjustable, ensuring stability on uneven surfaces.
Designed for public and semi-public use, each unit weighs about 102.5 kg, ensuring durability, safety, and resistance to misuse while remaining transportable. The material choice, robust construction, and absence of removable parts ensure compliance with durability and low-maintenance standards, making PPT suitable for intensive outdoor use and long-term installation.
as desmontables garantizan el cumplimiento de estándares de durabilidad y bajo mantenimiento, adecuados para uso exterior intensivo.
