YouRban Future Lab Brings Circular Innovation to Vienna

The YouRban consortium successfully hosted the YouRban Future Lab in Vienna, as part of the Klima Biennale Wien 2026, at the beginning of May, transforming Karlsplatz into an open space for learning, creativity, and exchange around circular economy and polymer recycling.

Following previous editions in Milan and Barcelona, the Vienna event continued the YouRban mission of connecting sustainability, design, and public participation through hands-on experiences and collaborative activities.

The Future Lab invited visitors to explore how industrial GFRP materials can be reimagined through circular design approaches and urban innovation. Through workshops, guided tours, discussions, and interactive demonstrations, participants engaged directly with concepts of reuse, material transformation, and sustainable urban futures.

The event welcomed designers, researchers, artists, families, children, local communities, and project partners, creating an open and inclusive environment for dialogue and experimentation. The active participation of visitors helped transform Karlsplatz into a temporary laboratory for circular thinking and creative collaboration.

The Vienna edition further demonstrated how the principles of the New European Bauhaus can be translated into tangible public experiences that combine aesthetics, sustainability, and social inclusion.

The YouRban Future Lab in Vienna was realized through the collaboration of Politecnico di Milano, Origoni Steiner, Syxix, FiberEUse Tech, AIVOX, designaustria, Institute of Design Research Vienna (IDRV), Labaula Architects.

YouRban continues to show how design, sustainability, and social participation can come together through the spirit of the New European Bauhaus.
